French is the working language

Cameroon handles official files in French. An English degree, transcript or civil record is read as a foreign paper until a French version sits beside it, and that French version has to be certified rather than merely accurate. Nothing else on the file changes.

So you order a certified translation into French in Liverpool and the English paper is left exactly as it is. Only a second sheet is created. The two travel together, and a clerk reads the French while checking it against the English.

The sworn signature and what it adds

The credential here is the traducteur assermenté, a sworn translator. They have taken an oath and may sign work under it, which is a different standing from a translator who simply attaches a note of accuracy. On this route the oath is the point.

What the signature buys you is traceability. A named person has put their standing behind the French text, and that person can be looked up. An official French translation in Liverpool without that mark is a good translation, but it is not the thing Cameroon asks for.

Per-page cost and turnaround

The rate runs at about £25 a page, counted on the source page rather than on word count. A two-sided form is two pages. A one-line extract is one. The signature and seal are part of the price and are never billed on top.

Standard work is 2–4 business days from the moment a clean scan lands, and the express lane brings that down to 24–48 hours. Transcripts of ten or twenty pages are the files worth booking ahead, because the clock follows the page count.

Getting a clean source copy in Liverpool

Everything is done from an image, so the paper you own can stay in the house. That matters most for a birth or marriage entry, where the record is hard to replace once it goes missing in transit. Order a spare early if you can.

For a Liverpool civil record, a fresh certified copy can be ordered from Liverpool Register Office at St George's Hall, St George's Place, Liverpool L1 1JJ. Use that copy for the job and the sheet you already keep never has to move at all.
