Which paper to send, and which to keep

An apostille is a single stamp that proves the signature and seal on your paper are real. Italy is in the Hague Convention, so a member state takes that one stamp and asks for no embassy step. A degree from an Italian state university is a public paper, so it fits that route.

Most people who ask how to apostille a Degree Certificate hold the wrong item. The framed parchment is hard to replace, and it may not carry a signature the state can trace. Ask your university office for a plain certificate of the degree instead.

The desk for a university paper

You apostille a Degree Certificate in Rome at the Prefettura (Prefecture), the state office for the province. Papers from a state university count as administrative, and this is their desk. Notarial and court papers go to the Procura della Repubblica at the court instead, which is a wholly different queue.

One check comes first. To apostille a Degree Certificate in Italy the office has to trace the signature on your paper. A signature it does not hold may mean a notary step, and that moves the file to the court side. Send us a scan and we will say which way yours goes.

Cost and timing

The apostille cost for a Degree Certificate in Rome is a state charge, not our fee: a €16 tax stamp per document, and some papers are exempt. Read document as sheet of paper. If a course list travels with the degree, that list is its own paper and takes its own stamp.

Intake dates do not move, and that is what usually bites. The office keeps its own queue and will not name a day, so start as soon as the offer or the job is real. If a deadline is close, give us the date and we will say plainly whether it can be met.

Who asks for a stamped degree

A university abroad asks before it lets you enrol on a master's course. A visa office asks when your points rest on a degree. A licence board asks before it lets you practise a trade. A hiring desk asks when the job needs proof of study.

Language, and the grade list

Ask the receiving body in writing before you pay for the legalisation of a Degree Certificate in Rome. Ask which papers they want, and in which language. If they want it in theirs, our translator signs an asseverazione, the oath of accuracy, in front of a court.

Ask as well whether they want your course list, with the marks and the hours behind the degree. Many boards weigh that more heavily than the degree paper itself. Order both from the university in one go, so both can be stamped together. Two trips cost time you would rather spend packing.
