Start by asking the receiving office
One question decides the whole job, and only the body that will read your paper can answer it. Write to that body and ask which form of legalisation it accepts for the document you hold. The apostille requirements for Angola have to be confirmed with that receiving authority, because acceptance rests with it and not with any office at the origin end. Ask for the reply in writing, keep it with the file, and plan everything else around what it says.
The origin side of the route is fixed
Whatever the reply says, the work in the city looks the same. An apostille from Italy to Angola is added by the Prefettura (Prefecture), the arm of the state that sits in each provincial capital, on papers issued by public offices. Italy has issued that stamp under the 1961 Hague Convention since 1978. The stamp confirms the signature and seal below it, and it makes no claim about what the paper itself says.
Prefettura or the court office
A Bologna apostille bound for Angola still has to come from the right counter. Papers that come out of public offices go to the Prefettura. Acts formed before a notary or a judge go to the Procura della Repubblica, the office attached to the court. That office works by district and takes acts made in the area it covers. Look at whose signature closes your sheet before you choose a building, because the wrong queue costs you the day.
What the state charge covers
The charge on the origin side is a €16 tax stamp for each document. You buy it, attach it, and hand it in with the paper. Some papers are let off, so ask at the desk before you spend. If you need an apostille for Angola on four separate sheets, that is four stamps and not one. Anything a courier or a translator asks for is separate, set by them, and no part of the state charge.
If the reply names a consular route
Some bodies ask for document legalisation for Angola through a consulate rather than a single stamp. If that is what your written reply names, follow it to the letter. The chain is longer, the consulate sets the order of the steps, and a stamp bought out of turn can be money wasted. Ask the consulate for its own current list before you pay anybody, then work backwards from its stated deadline to today.
Planning the corridor
No turnaround is fixed for this corridor, so build the plan around its slowest link. That is usually the office that releases your paper rather than the counter that stamps it. Ask each office for its current wait, add a margin, and count the post at both ends. Commit no money until the written reply from the receiving body sits in your file. That single habit prevents most of the waste we see on this route.
